Who actually appears in USDA livestock business records?

A USDA-record lookup is useful when you need evidence about a regulated livestock business. It is not a background check on every rancher or auction bidder.

What LivestockVerify currently searches

Livestock dealers and market agencies buying on commission

Supported USDA bonded-record lists include registered dealers and buyers acting on commission. These lists contain the published bonded entities and related source dates.

Market agencies selling livestock on commission

Supported bonded market-agency records can help identify a public livestock market or commission seller and any published bond evidence.

Bonded packers

Supported USDA bonded-packer lists show businesses with published bond records. Not every packer is required to maintain a bond; USDA describes an annual livestock-purchase threshold for the requirement.

Packers & Stockyards suspensions

USDA publishes suspension records, updated by USDA on its own cadence. LivestockVerify reports resolved and unresolved names conservatively, with evidence dates.

Who may not appear?

Farmers and ranchers buying livestock for their own stocking or feeding, or marketing their own animals, are generally not subject to the Packers & Stockyards Act in those activities. That means an ordinary auction bidder may correctly have no entry in these lists. USDA's official regulated-entities FAQ explains the distinction.

How to interpret the answer

MATCH

A supported public source record matches the supplied name and available location information. This does not establish solvency or guarantee payment.

MULTIPLE_POSSIBLE_MATCHES

The tool found several plausible identities. Staff should confirm the legal identity using additional evidence rather than arbitrarily selecting one.

NO_MATCH

The searched supported sources did not yield a match. That is not proof of safety, licensing, exemption, eligibility, a lack of enforcement history, or bidder approval.

The source lists may also be older than the most recent software refresh. Review the current snapshot and source dates when using a result.

When your staff checks many dealers, packers or other supported commercial counterparties, paid batch/API use may eliminate repetitive manual spreadsheet searches. Production price is currently $0.05 per completed verification through Apify, with up to 1,000 checks per batch.
